We went to the zoo yesterday. They had these 4-seater, 4-wheeled bikes with 4 sets of peddles that the kids thought would really heighten the experience. I said okay as long as I didn’t have to do all the pedaling. Really, it was a blast. So often I go to places such as this and no food, no souvenirs, no extras. Well, we only had one day as spring break is spent elsewhere this year so we went all out and started pedaling.
I gave the older kids full reign to drive. Of course the older one thought he was already rather expert rated (and we probably all let him pedal most because of it — hee, hee). The middle child, you know, the one who likes to chase girls with spam breath, had his turn too and thought it would be funny to pedal off without us while we were looking at an exhibit. To our great amusement, he had to turn the whole thing around and come back and get us. The bike-thing had no reverse so it was Fred Flintstone at best. Forward, backward, forward, backward thanks to the narrow road. I had tears coming down my eyes the whole thing was so funny.
When is the last time you had a good family laugh? When is the last time you went to “walking” entertainment with lots of time to talk, joke, play? When is the last time you spent more than you intended with a full dividend in the end? It had been too long for me.
When Jesus was in the garden, he prayed for us. He prayed for unity for us so that He could be glorified and so that the world would know how God the Father and Jesus his son loved us. There is often talk of unity among believers — and disunity. My family shows both. Ours is far from the ideal when it comes to showing this sort of Christ-like unity in family. But yesterday we loved on each other all day, and I believe it will go a ways for us. How about you? Christ prayed for this for you. The Easter season seems to be a good time to ponder this as we try to stay awake in the garden . . .
John 17 — hope you get a chance to read the whole thing!
